God and the Problem of Evil

Wednesdays, January 10, 17, 24 & 31, 6:00-7:30pm

Presenters:
Cameron Gibbs, Ph.D student in Philosophy at UMASS
Bill Hodgeman, Senior Pastor, College Church

Why does God allow so much evil and suffering?
Did God create evil?
How do different worldviews make sense of evil?
How should Christians respond in the face of evil?

The presence of evil and suffering in the world creates both an intellectual challenge and an emotional challenge for people of faith.  This class will attempt to unpack the problem of evil and suffering, survey some of the leading “solutions” and “defenses” from the world of philosophy and theology, and unpack street-level implications for believers and unbelievers struggling with these realities today.
